The early childhood, elementary, and special education programs provide instruction, field experiences, and clinical practices that develop excellence in teaching and skills to serve diversified populations.

Elementary Education (Pk-6)
The Master of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education (MAT.ECE.Online) is an online degree designed to prepare students to receive a professional teaching license to teach in the elementary setting. Perspective students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. 

Special Education (K-12)
The Master of Arts in Special Education (MA.SPE.GN.K12) is an accelerated program designed to prepare students to receive a professional teaching license to teach special education in the elementary, middle, and high school setting(s). Perspective students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. 

Admission Requirements:

Below are the requirements for admission into Teacher Education:

  • 2.75 GPA or higher.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Liberal Arts) from a nationally accredited institution of higher learning.  Students with non-Liberal Arts degree may be required to take additional coursework.
  • Passing scores on the VCLA exam (Licensure Programs Only).
  • Three (3) recent letters of recommendation (e.g. supervisor, former professor, and advisor) dated within the last year.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended.
  • Personal Statement regarding professional goals.
  • Resume (updated).
  • Completed graduate application.
