Norfolk State University student, Destini Bell, is making history in the fashion industry after being selected as one of 160 recipients for a highly competitive national program through the Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF).
The opportunity came after an encouraging email from fashion professor Christy Frederick, prompting the student to apply. That decision led to a major milestone, not only earning recognition within her field but also becoming the first NSU student to receive this honor.
“Being selected among 160 recipients is incredibly meaningful,” Bell said. “It’s an honor to be recognized by FSF and to represent my HBCU while helping pave the way for future fashion students from this university.”
Through the program, Bell received a $10,000 scholarship from the FSF x Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” initiative, along with valuable industry networking opportunities. In addition, she was awarded a separate $10,000 scholarship from the Movado Group, recognizing excellence within the FSF program.
As part of the application process, she completed a case study in the Design & Product Development category, exploring a creative merger between luxury brand Tiffany & Co. and tech giant Apple, highlighting innovation at the intersection of fashion and technology.
“I am truly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to grow, create and open doors for others,” Bell states.

Bell and Frederick attended the FSF Gala in New York City in March, which honored the award recipients.
