Norfolk State University hosted a reception to officially introduce the University's newly added women's golf program, marking an exciting expansion of opportunities for Spartan student-athletes.
The reception featured remarks from Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston, President of Norfolk State University, and Antwyne DeLonde, for whom the Verrecchia-DeLonde Sports Performance Simulator in the James D. Gill Health and Physical Education Building is named. Remarks were also given by Dr. Melody Webb, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, who spoke on the significance of this new program.
“The addition of women’s golf is not simply the launch of a new sport, but the expansion of opportunity,” Dr. Webb stated. “It’s the spreading of equity and the continued evolution of our Division I athletic portfolio.”
Dr. Klenton Sparks, a former golf professional, serves as the program's golf administrator.
