After a national search, Norfolk State University administrators have selected Vincent M. Moore to serve as the new Chief of Police and Public Safety.
Moore brings decades of leadership experience in federal law enforcement and the military. His expertise encompasses communications, crime prevention, counterterrorism, crisis mitigation, disaster preparedness, emergency response, event security, hazardous materials, program administration, public safety, risk reduction, strategic planning and threat assessment. Moore previously served with the FBI as a Special Agent and was based in the Norfolk Field Office for 20 years. At the bureau, he directed daily operations, mentored personnel, led highly specialized teams and collaborated with multiple law enforcement agencies and other external entities to plan and conduct actions with regional, national and international impacts. As an FBI Campus Liaison Coordinator, he advised nine colleges and universities in developing and instituting procedures to manage security.
In 2014, Moore retired from the U. S. Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel after a career that included combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in addition to Kuwait, Central Africa Republic, South Sudan and Uganda. He attended Florida A&M University and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Moore has also attended numerous FBI advanced training programs, held top-secret security clearances and has earned certifications to become an FBI negotiator and law enforcement instructor. The new chief said he is prepared to focus his attention on safeguarding the security of the diverse segments of constituents who make up the NSU community.
Moore is married and has two sons.
