Norfolk State University Alumnus to Screen Oscar Award-Winning Film

The Norfolk State University’s Theater Company and Department of Mass Communication and Journalism will host “An Evening with Zeus Campbell.” Campbell is an NSU alumnus, Norfolk native, and a cast member of the Oscar Award-winning film, Skin. At the event, the short film will be screened and Campbell will talk about his experience working on the project.

Emmy Award winning journalist, Lisa Godley, will moderate a discussion after the film screening. The event will take place Thursday, April 11, 2019 on the campus of Norfolk State University in the Brown Hall Mainstage Theater. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but ticket reservation is required. Tickets are available at www.nsutheatre.com.  


Summary of Skin - In a small supermarket in a blue-collar town, a black man smiles at a white boy across the checkout aisle. This innocuous moment forces racial tensions to the breaking point and sends two gangs into a ruthless war.

About Zeus Campbell - A viral video success, Zeus Campbell is an American actor, director, writer, and producer.  A native of Norfolk and a Norfolk State University alumnus, Campbell found Internet “fame” with the first season of Hump Day Romance, gaining millions of views on YouTube. In 2012, it brought him a partnership with the multimedia company.  In 2016, Zeus moved Hollywood. Outside of his own productions, Zeus has landed lead roles in numerous independent films and national commercials. He is widely recognized from commercials for companies such as Geico, Nike, Good Year, Uber, Pizza Hut, and Virginia Lottery. In 2018, he began writing and producing for social media powerhouse, Buzzfeed. Zeus and his cast members won the 2019 Academy Award for “Live Action Short” for the film SKIN.  Currently, Zeus is recording his second season as voice over narrator on the hit series “Homicide City”, which airs on Investigation Discovery Channel.
