Net Zero Materials Lab
The Net Zero Materials (NZM) Lab at Norfolk State University, led by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, serves as a multidisciplinary research and training hub focused on sustainable construction materials and low-carbon technologies. The lab supports pioneering work in carbonaceous mineral admixtures, alternative binder systems, and durability-driven concrete innovation. Through hands-on experimentation, digital characterization, and mix design optimization, the NZM Lab enables students and researchers to develop next-generation cementitious systems tailored for climate-resilient infrastructure. It also serves as a platform for workforce development, engaging undergraduate researchers, community college interns, and K–12 learners in experiential learning aligned with the goals of decarbonizing the built environment.
