Title III funds have enabled the University to initiate a wide range of innovative and crucial programs. Funds have been used to strengthen academic programs through specific projects which are categorized on this site by HBCU, HBGI and SAFRA.

Continuing to Enhance the Growth and Sustainability of Norfolk State University’s Advancement Program

The purpose of this activity is to enhance the growth and sustainability of the of the University Advancement program by expanding its capacity to secure philanthropic investments for the continued advancement of Norfolk State University. The overall objective of this activity is to raise approximately $4,173,890 (should subsequent years of funding remain at the 2017-18 level or greater) to match an equal amount of federal funds to establish the 2017-2022 Title III Scholarship Endowment. This will increase the University’s overall endowment by $8,347,780 by September 30, 2022.

Enhancing Student Persistence through Increasing Performance and Preparation

The Enhancing Student Persistence through Increasing Performance and Preparation activity will expand the capacity of the Office of Academic Engagement to implement targeted student success initiatives for increasing persistence and graduation rates at Norfolk State University (NSU). Student success initiatives will support undergraduate students strategically during all four years, with a special focus on the first two years.

Utilizing Innovative Digital Technologies to Build a Campus-Wide Culture of Assessment

Using innovative digital technologies, Norfolk State University proposes to create a campus-wide culture of assessment that facilitates continuous improvements in student learning and compliance with state guidelines and regional accreditation standards. The adoption of an electronic platform will assist the University in developing the capacity to manage the data collection and workflow associated with institutional effectiveness, outcomes assessment, accountability, planning, reporting activities and documentation/facilitation of continuous improvement associated with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and program-specific accreditation needs.

Project Innovative Expansion: Increasing Online Degree and Certificate Programs

The Office of Extended Learning provides the instructional design and compliance, operations support and technology solutions needed for the provision of online degrees, classes and certificates to students who seek to pursue their education with non-traditional options. The goal of the Project Innovative Expansion activity is to empower educators and students to utilize technology to pursue higher education in an innovative way.

Using Technology to Deliver Innovative Services to the Norfolk State University Campus Community

Norfolk State University’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) supports a comprehensive range of Information Technology systems campus-wide on a daily and continuing basis. Therefore, it is critical that the Information Technology infrastructure is reliable and robust to meet the needs of the University and its end-user community. The proposed activity is designed to improve efficiency by reducing processing time through the implementation of a digital signatures online system for faculty and staff, reducing time, operational costs and continued improvement of customer service.

Strengthening the Norfolk State University Radio Station’s (WNSB) Infrastructure

The WNSB activity will concentrate its efforts on 1) improving Nielsen ranking, 2) increasing monthly listenership to include the involvement of more alumni, corporations, and friends, and 3) training NSU students to enter the broadcast industry with knowledge and skills required to be productive contributors using state-of-the-art broadcast technologies. The central elements needed to realize these foci include development of student-intern expertise in programming production, and renewed alignment of a state-of-the-art radio station with campus life and university alumni.

Enhancing Leadership Development and Financial Literacy

The President’s Leadership Development activity will incorporate strategies to promote organizational success from the top down through a series of structured trainings geared to advancing the leadership through continuous improvement and collaborative efforts with university constituents internal and external the university. Furthermore, the activity will improve the knowledge level of students and parents regarding the cost of education and provide them with techniques and methods to maximize the financial resources available to them while at the same time decreasing the mounting levels of debt incurred by NSU students.

Strengthening Employee Performance through a Learning and Development Program

Learning and development (L&D) plays an integral role in the effectiveness of organizations and experiences of the organization’s human capital. L&D has implications on workforce productivity, health and safety at work, professional and personal development, workplace compliance and sustaining the core values and cultural aspects of the work environment while ultimately improving organizational effectiveness. The L&D activity proposes to identify and close critical skills, competencies and knowledge gaps through specialized development training programs.

Growing And Strengthening The Graduate Program In The College Of Science, Engineering And Technology (CSET):
The goal of the "College of Science Engineering and Technology (CSET)" activity is to grow the graduate programs and enhance the CSET graduate programs in accordance with the Provost's Five-Point Plan and the NSU strategic Plan. This will be accomplished by increasing graduate student enrollment, faculty and student research productivity, and CSET graduate program offerings.

SAFRA

Enhancing A Diverse Teacher Population: The Future Teacher Academy:
The Future Teacher Academy (FTA) is an endeavor designed to increase the number of students, particularly African American males and other undeserved populations, who complete state approved and nationally accredited programs in teacher preparation.

Enhancing Access To Library Resources And Services to Norfolk State University Students:
The "Library Services" is an activity designed to re-organize and consolidate current resources and services for better access while using that base to expand access to the services in physical and virtual environments.

Strengthening The Student Experience Through A Comprehensive Learning Community Initiative (LCs):
The Strengthening the Student Experience through a Comprehensive Learning Community Initiative aims to expand learning communities to enhance student retention, persistence, and graduation rates at Norfolk State University (NSU). Further, the expansion of a comprehensive learning community program will assist NSU in its recruitment efforts. To the end that NSU will be recognized as a national leader in learning communities.
