Student Pathways and Academic Formation micro-credential digital badges are symbols to communicate students’ competencies and achievements acquired during classroom and/or co-curricular activities.  Activities assist students with developing skills, to include 21st century employability competencies and professional skills, to enhance post graduate outcomes and workplace marketability. Micro-credential badging translates demonstrated learning outcomes into visible competency and achievement representations.  Student Pathways and Academic Formation uses the Credly digital badge platform, an organization that works with credible organizations, to provide digital credentials to NSU students.

Student Pathways and Academic Formation Micro-credential Digital Badging Learning Outcomes and Framework

The framework for Student Pathways and Academic Formation micro-credential digital badges is based on Education Design Lab Micro-credentialing activities.

Activities should provide an opportunity for learners to:

  • Acquire knowledge of the topic/focus area.
  • Practice using the acquired skills.
  • Demonstrate competency via several measurements.


Knowledge: Deep learning that incorporates multi-modal material targeted at each skill’s sub-competencies.

Experience/Reflection: Direct application and practice of the sub-competencies skills so learners can activate the skills in varied contexts

Assessment: Multiple, ongoing, and varied measurements for learners to understand, target, and transform their skills

  • Q: What is the micro-credential digital badge?  
    According to Credly, micro-credential digital badges are representations of learning outcomes, experiences or competencies by linking meta-data to developmental experiences.  Micro-credential digital badges are web-enabled versions of a credential or learning outcome which can be verified in real-time, on-line.
  • Q: How do learning outcomes get displayed as badges? 
    Student Pathways and Academic Formation has partnered with Credly’s platform, which is one of the leading digital credential platforms.  The goal is to make students’ talents more visible and opportunities more accessible to leading organizations.
  • Q: What are benefits of micro-credential digital badges?
    Representing skills as a badge provides a way to share abilities on-line and can be easily verified in real time. Micro-credential digital badges provide employers and peers concrete evidence of earned credentials and competencies.
  • Q: How do students complete activities to earn the micro-credential badges? 
    Depending on the micro-credential digital badges, students participate in activities during classroom instructions or via the Blackboard (Bb) learning management system.  Students must complete instructional and practice activities and earn a specific score on assessments.  Activities to earn each micro-credential digital badges vary and are outlined in the Bb learning management system.
  • Q: How will individuals know if they've earned a badge?
    They will receive an email notification from Credly (admin@youracclaim.com) with instructions for claiming badges and setting up accounts.
  • Q: Where and how can individuals share badges through Credly?Individuals can share badges directly from the Credly platform to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and over email.
  • Q: Can badges be used to find jobs on the Credly platform?
    Credly offers labor market insights, based on developed skills. Individuals can search and apply for job opportunities right through the Credly platform.
