Student Pathways and Academic Formation micro-credential digital badges are symbols to communicate students’ competencies and achievements acquired during classroom and/or co-curricular activities. Activities assist students with developing skills, to include 21st century employability competencies and professional skills, to enhance post graduate outcomes and workplace marketability. Micro-credential badging translates demonstrated learning outcomes into visible competency and achievement representations. Student Pathways and Academic Formation uses the Credly digital badge platform, an organization that works with credible organizations, to provide digital credentials to NSU students.

The framework for Student Pathways and Academic Formation micro-credential digital badges is based on Education Design Lab Micro-credentialing activities.
Activities should provide an opportunity for learners to:
- Acquire knowledge of the topic/focus area.
- Practice using the acquired skills.
- Demonstrate competency via several measurements.
Knowledge: Deep learning that incorporates multi-modal material targeted at each skill’s sub-competencies.
Experience/Reflection: Direct application and practice of the sub-competencies skills so learners can activate the skills in varied contexts
Assessment: Multiple, ongoing, and varied measurements for learners to understand, target, and transform their skills

Depending on the micro-credential digital badges, students participate in activities during classroom instructions or via the Blackboard (Bb) learning management system. Students must complete instructional and practice activities and earn a specific score on assessments.
