2021 MEAC Champions
The Norfolk State baseball team won its first-ever MEAC championship in dramatic fashion Saturday, rallying to beat North Carolina Central 7-6 on Alsander Womack’s two-out, walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning.
The Spartans rallied several times, first to force extra innings, then again in the bottom of the 10th to fight off the Eagles and send the game into the 11th inning.
Womack, who had three hits and two runs batted in, was named the tournament MVP. Ty Hanchey, James Deloatch and Danny Hosley joined Womack on the all-tournament team. Keith Shumate was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Coach.
The Spartans will now advance to the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship tournament for the first time in their history. They will learn which four-team regional they will compete in during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 31 at noon on ESPN2.
