Affording College

The Office of Financial Aid Office works diligently to assist students as they pursue their educational endeavors. Norfolk State University offers a wide variety of financial aid programs. These programs include scholarships, grants, student employment opportunities and loans.

Financial Aid

Earning your college degree is important to you and to us. A college degree often has life-changing benefits for you, your family and community.

The purpose of Norfolk State University's financial aid program is to provide assistance to qualified students who, without such aid, would be unable to attend the university. Aid is awarded on the basis of need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Types of Aid

Scholarships are gifts. Scholarships do not need to be repaid. There are thousands of scholarship opportunities. Students may research scholarships offered by schools, employers, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups and professional and social organizations.

If scholarships and grants are not sufficient to cover educational expenses, a loan may fill a student's remaining financial need.

Student loans, unlike grants and scholarships, must be repaid, with interest. Students should be prudent in deciding the amount of money to borrow and carefully consider the amount they will have to repay over the years. There are various types of loans that students may consider. Click here for more information on various loan types.
