To protect student privacy under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), families must be authorized through the student’s FERPA records release before we can share information from the student’s education records. Any disclosure must fall within the scope of that authorization, unless an exception permitted by law applies. Families may always share concerns with our office, even without a release.
In a health or safety emergency, the Dean of Students or designee may share relevant information with appropriate parties, including family members, without the student’s consent when there is an articulable and significant threat and the information is necessary to protect the student or others.
We strive to respond within three business days. Complex concerns or high-volume periods, such as registration, may require additional time.
