Maureen Scott is a dedicated undergraduate Biology Instructor and mentor at Norfolk State University (NSU). She has been teaching for over 25 years and enjoys serving as a research advisor and academic mentor/advisor. Ms. Scott teaches Biological Sciences, Comparative Anatomy, Human Anatomy, Vertebrate Embryology, Human Physiology and Anatomy and Human Biology. She is the advisor of the Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society (BKX) and National Institute of Science (NIS) chapter at Norfolk State University. She is privileged and honored to currently serve as the BKX National President. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of College Honor Societies 2022-2025.

Mrs. Scott conducts a continuous environmental research series entitled the Effects of Environmental Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Water Pollution on Aquatic Organisms Research Series 2004-Present. This research is an ongoing, expanded study of the effects of environmental water pollution, especially pharmaceutical and agricultural water pollutants, on aquatic organisms. This research study investigates pollutants in amounts approved  by the Environmental Protection Agency to be present in human drinking. Pollutants examined in this series of investigations include Triclosan, Estrogen, Cannabinoids, Ammonium Nitrate, Sodium Fluoride, Lead and PFOS. Impacts are measured by determining morphological and developmental disruptions in frogs and fish, exposed to polluted water environments. The data frequently indicate that agricultural and pharmaceutical water pollution is detrimental to the growth, development, and vitality of aquatic organisms. Ms. Scott has mentored over 35 undergraduate researchers in her reserach program. As a mentor/sponsor, she has taken NSU STEM students to over 65 national research conferences.  Under her guidance and mentorship, Norfolk State University’s STEM students and BKX members have received numerous national research awards and fellowships.
