SPARTANCARD FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q) Is the first replacement card free?

A) No. The first SpartanCard is issued at no cost to you; however, every replacement card after that has a replacement fee currently $25 (fee subject to change).

Q) Where do I go to pay for a new SpartanCard?

A) Replacement fees are payable to the Cashier's Office. If there is enough funds on the cardholder's SpartanBucks account it can be used to purchase a new card in the SpartanCard Office.

Q) Why can't I keep my old SpartanCard if I get a new one?

A) For Security purposes, patrons are only allowed to possess one SpartanCard.

Q) Do I have to get a new SpartanCard every year?

A) No. The first SpartanCard received is to be your SpartanCard for the duration of your enrollment at Norfolk State University. Lost, damaged, or stolen cards warrant a $25 replacement fee.
 

Q) Can I punch a hole in my SpartanCard?

A) No. The SpartanCard is a formatted card and punching holes in the card will damage it and prevent it from working properly. The replacement fee for a damaged card is $25.

Q) Can I get cash off my SpartanCard?

A) The SpartanCard is a 'deposit only' account. Patrons may request refunds at the end of each semester (and throughout the summer semester in the SpartanCard Office).

Q) How can I put money on my SpartanCard?

A) Patrons can add money to the SpartanCard at the Cashier's Office using cash, debit, credit, or check. Patrons can add money (cash only) to the card by using the SpartanCard cash management center machine located in the Student Center. Patrons can add money to their SpartanCard using financial aid funds by contacting Student Accounts at 757-823-9293 or emailing them at studentaccounts@nsu.edu

Note: (Full-time students can transfer up to $1000 and part-time students can transfer up to $600.)

Q) I washed my SpartanCard, can I get a new one at no charge?

A) No. A new card costs $25 and can be purchased at the Cashier's Office using cash, debit or credit, or check. If the card is purchase at the Cashier's Office, the receipt must be brought to the SpartanCard Office to receive the new ID; OR if the patron has enough SpartanBucks on the card to cover the charge, then $25 can be deducted from the patron's card in the SpartanCard Office.
 

Q) My card was stolen, can I have a one one at no charge?

A) No. There is a $25 replacement fee for lost, damage, and/or stolen cards.
 

Q) My card is broken, do I have to pay for a replacement?

A) There is a replacement fee for all lost, stolen, or damaged cards. This fee is currently $25 (This price is subject to change).

Q) Can I change my meal plan?

A) Patrons must contact the Office of Residential Life/ Housing regarding all residential meal plan changes.

Q) Where can I add money to my SpartanCard?

A) Patrons may add money by going to the Cashier's office on the second floor of the Student Service Center, using cash, check, or credit/debit; patrons can add cash to their cards using the card management center located in the New Student Center or by going online to SpartanCard Online.

Q) How can I use my financial aid to purchase my books?

A) Patrons receiving a Financial Aid refund may complete a SpartanCard Authorization form on MyNSU or at Student Accounts, which allows financial aid to be placed on the card for purchases. The SpartanCard Office cannot transfer financial aid to the SpartanCard.

Q) I do not live on campus, can I purchase a meal plan?

A) Yes, commuter meal plans may be purchased in the Cashier's office in the increments of 25, 50, 75, and 100 meals. Each plan comes with $100 dining dollars. The meal plans are non-refundable and expire at the end of each semester.
