A First-Year Learning Community
About
The Spartan Emerging Leaders Learning Community is designed to provide opportunities for students to engage in theoretical frameworks which support self-authorship, leadership development, and social change. Students will participate in curricular and co-curricular activities to foster student engagement, belonging, an appreciation of diversity and inclusion, and advocacy.
Spartan Emerging Leaders Learning Community participants will:
- enhance and develop their individual leadership potential.
- participate in exploratory leadership practices and be able to select their preferred leadership style.
- be able to articulate, with understanding, why & how their particular leadership style is preferred.
- learn to effectively articulate their set of practical skills and tools on a resume, portfolio, and in interviews.
Leadership Learning Community Goals:
- To foster a sense of belonging among students in the community.
- Engage students in theoretical frameworks which support self-authorship, leadership development, and social change.
- Provide students with early career exploration, service-learning/civic engagement, and undergraduate research opportunities.
- Provide academic support, co-curricular activities, and other resources to assist University efforts to increase retention
