A First-Year Learning Community
About
The Spartan Emerging Leaders Learning Community aims to support students in engaging with theoretical frameworks that encourage self-authorship, leadership development, and social change. Participants will take part in both curriculum-based and co-curricular activities to promote student engagement, a sense of belonging, an appreciation of diversity and inclusion, as well as advocacy.
Spartan Emerging Leaders Learning Community participants will:
- Enhance and develop their leadership potential.
- Participate in exploratory leadership practices and be able to select their preferred leadership style.
- Be able to articulate, with understanding, why & how their particular leadership style is preferred.
- Learn to articulate their practical skills and tools effectively on a resume, in a portfolio, and in interviews.
Leadership Learning Community Goals:
- To foster a sense of belonging among students in the community.
- Engage students in theoretical frameworks which support self-authorship, leadership development, and social change.
- Provide students with early career exploration, service-learning/civic engagement, and undergraduate research opportunities.
- Provide academic support, co-curricular activities, and other resources to assist University efforts to increase retention
