Important Information

The best way to get in contact with the Office of the Registrar will be via email at registrar@nsu.edu.  We will be answering calls as well, but if you are asked to leave a message, we will respond as quickly as possible. The Office of the Registrar’s phone number is 757-823-8337 or fax number 757-823-8907

Process for Add/Drop form:

Students will send an email to the Office of the Registrar at registrar@nsu.edu stating they would like to drop a course(s), this will act as their official signature.  In the Subject Line of the email put Add/Drop.  The email must come from their NSU student email account. If the email is sent from a non-NSU email address, it will not be accepted.

  • The information needed in this email is as followed:
    Full Name
    Student ID
    Course and Section of the course(s) to be dropped
  • Once the Add/Drop request is processed, an email will be sent stating the process has been completed.
     

Process for Withdrawal form:

Students will send an email to registrar@nsu.edu stating that they would like to withdraw for the current semester.  In the Subject Line put Official Withdrawal.

  • The information needed in the email is as followed:
    Full Name
    Student ID
    Reason for Withdrawing (Illness, Personal, Military, another School, etc.,)
    If you will be withdrawing just for the semester or completely from NSU.
  • The Withdrawal form will be filled out and processed by the Office of the Registrar.  An email will be sent stating that the student has been withdrawn from the semester to financialaid@nsu.edu for Return the Title IV processing.
  • Once the Withdrawal request is processed, an email will be sent stating the process has been completed.

Process for Release of Information Request:

Students will send an email to registrar@nsu.edu from their NSU email address, this will act as their official signature.  In the Subject Line of the email put Release of Information.  If this request is sent from a non-NSU email address, it will not be accepted.

  • The information needed in the email is as followed:
    Full Name
    Student ID
    List of Names that you want for the Office of the Registrar to have access to your record.
  • Once the Release of Information request is processed, an email will be sent stating the process has been completed.


Process for Change of Name:

Students will send an email to registrar@nsu.edu from their NSU email address, this will act as their official signature.  In the Subject Line of the email put Change of Name.  If this request is sent from a non-NSU email address, it will not be accepted.

  • The information needed in this email is as followed:
    Present Name
    New Name
    Reason for the change:  Married or Divorced
  • Documentation required
    Birth Certificate
    Marriage License
    Passport
    Court Documentation
    Divorce Decree
    Social Security Card and Driver’s License are not Official Documentation
  • Scan or photograph all required documentation and send it to registrar@nsu.edu for processing.
  • Once the Change of Name request has been processed an email will be sent stating the process has been completed.


Process for Change of Address:

Students will send an email to registrar@nsu.edu from their NSU email address, this will act as their official signature.  In the Subject Line of the email put Change of Address.

  • The information needed in the email is as followed:
    Full Name
    Student ID
    Old Address
    New Address that you want your information to go to.
  •  If this request is sent from a non-NSU email address, it will not be accepted
  • You can also change your address in MyNSU under Spartan Self Service then click on Address Change

Process for Change of Major/Minor form:

  • Student will fill out the following information on the form:
    Last Name, First Name
    Student ID
    Old Major/Minor
    New Major/Minor
    Double Major (if requested)
    Reason for requesting a change of major/minor or double major.
  • Student will submit the form to their academic department chair via email for signature. (Click link at the bottom of the page if you do not know who your academic department chair is).
  • If approved, the academic department chair will sign the form and submit it via email to the new academic department.  If the change of major is not approved, the student should receive an email stating why it was not approved.
  • The new academic department will then fill the following information:
    Signature of the Prospective Department Chair
    Name of New Academic Advisor
  • The new academic department will send the completed form to the Office of the Registrar via email to registrar@nsu.edu for processing.
  • Once the Change of Major/Minor form has been processed, an email will be sent to the student stating that their major/minor has been changed.

Mission

The Office of the Registrar is responsible for the integrity and security of students academic records. The office processes requests related to registration, transcripts, verification, readmission, athletic certification, degree audit, addresses and major/minor changes. Students records will not be released to third parties without the students written permission (exception: Directory Information).
