Program Information

What is the SAIL Program?
Spartans All Inclusive Learning (SAIL) is a course material model that reduces the cost of materials for students and ensures they have all their materials across all courses prior to the first day of class. Instead of purchasing materials a la carte, the cost will be included in their tuition or as a charge. The bookstore will provide each student with a convenient package for physical books and digital materials will be delivered directly to Blackboard.

What is included in the program?
The program provides all required textbooks, lab manuals and digital textbook versions to eligible students.

What is excluded from the program?
The program does not include consumables that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits.

How do I enroll in the program?
All NSU students will be automatically enrolled in the SAIL program.

Can I opt out of the program?
NSU has made every effort to launch this new bookstore program to benefit students by providing course materials before the start of the semester at a lower rate. Students have the option to opt out of the program by completing the SAIL Opt-Out Form, which will be available to students through the webpage beginning August 1, 2023 for the Fall 20233 semester. Opting out means you will not receive access to your required course materials in a convenient package at a discounted rate.

How do I change my opt out status after I have chosen to opt out?
Students that have opted out and wish to re-enroll in the SAIL program must contact Student Accounts at snriggs@nsu.edu or sejackson@nsu.edu  to opt back into the program. You must make your final selection by August 26, 2023 for the Fall 2023 semester.

What happens if I never verify my order?
Students will receive emails and phone calls from the bookstore to remind them to verify their order. If the student does not opt out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?
Yes, if the student does not opt out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.

What if I drop a class?
You may return the book to the bookstore on the same terms and timelines currently in place. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will “swap” the required textbooks/codes so that you have what you need.

Can I opt out if I picked up my textbooks?
Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the bundle will go back onto your NSU bill.

How do I know where to find the textbook information from SAIL based on my Fall 2023 Course Schedule?
You will receive an email from Barnes & Noble on July 25, 2023 that includes a link with your textbook information. You can follow the link to review your textbook bundle and confirm your participation in the program.

Payment

How much does the SAIL program cost?
The cost is set at $25.00 per credit hour.

How do I purchase my course materials if I choose to opt out of the program?
Title IV financial aid recipients have the option of purchasing their books at their own expense or by using their excess FA funds at the Barnes & Noble College bookstore. Students must review the book list on the Barnes & Noble College bookstore website to ensure purchases made outside of the program are accurate and match the faculty’s up-to-date book adoption. Students wishing to use their Title IV credit to purchase books through the Barnes & Noble College bookstore must log on to Spartan Self Service on MyNSU and use the dropdown feature for SpartanCard to transfer funds.

If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?
Yes, if the student does not opt out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged.
