New Drama & Theatre Degree Approved at NSU

The State Council for Higher Education in Virginia recently approved a new Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre & Drama scheduled to begin this fall. The original proposal and curriculum was approved by the NSU Board of Visitors on September 13, 2016.

In the last four years, Norfolk State has gained national attention and acclaim, winning multiple awards and honors from The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, The National Black Theatre Festival and most recently winning Best Fine Arts Program at the 2017 HBCU Awards in Washington, D.C.

“With the implementation of this new degree, we are poised to expand our cultural offerings, partnerships and intensify the training of our forthcoming drama majors,” said Anthony Stockard, associate professor of drama and the proposal’s principal writer. He added, “Our new state-of-the-art building and this new program make NSU primed to be one of America’s best programs for training in performance and design and technology.”
