The mission of the Construction Management Engineering Technology Program is to provide men and women with current technology, management and applied engineering competencies required for technical and supervisory roles in residential and commercial construction settings. 

Program Mission

The Construction Management Engineering Technology program provides a sound background in principles and practices of residential and commercial construction. Courses of instruction include methods and materials of construction, building codes and specifications, architectural and computer-aided drafting, surveying, cost estimates, and computer principles. Students also take courses in statics, strength of materials and steel structures. Management courses include: construction scheduling, organization and supervision of construction, labor an industrial relations, and legal environment of business. 

Program Outcomes

The Construction Management Engineering Technology program provides for student achievement of the following outcomes:

  • Graduates will be able to demonstrate professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a technological environment.
  • Graduates will have ability to demonstrate higher order learning skills by applying knowledge of science, mathematics, and computer applications to address real world construction problems.
  • Graduates will have ability to access and evaluate current knowledge and information for application to emerging construction problems.
  • Graduates will be able to apply principles of leadership, management, and supervision in a variety of technological construction settings.
  • Graduates will have ability to employ global technologies to address social, economic and environmental issues.

Program Competencies

Students completing the Construction Management Engineering Technology program will master the following competencies:

  • 1.1 Demonstrate the ability to write and present technical documents using appropriate visual materials.
  • 1.2 Demonstrate ability to prepare and interpret working plans for residential and commercial structures.
  • 2.1 Demonstrate scientific reasoning, quantitative thinking and critical thinking skills in planning construction projects from conception to completion.
  • 2.2 Demonstrate competency in the use of computer-aided-design software such as AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop and REVIT Architecture.
  • 3.1 Demonstrate competency in the use of project management software such as Sure Track Project Manager and various RS Means cost estimating software.
  • 3.2 Identify and execute construction site safety standards, including the ability to interpret OSHA Standards, establish safety and health procedures for the job site, perform hazard material and process analysis used and enforce safety procedures.
  • 3.3 Demonstrate ability to apply hazard control measures (e.g., elimination, engineering controls, administrative/managerial controls and personal protective equipment) for different types of construction operations and work environments.
  • 3.4 Demonstrate knowledge of land surveying, surveying instruments; read and interpret land survey data.
  • 3.5 Demonstrate knowledge of soil properties and their influence on soil behavior, building structure and the built environment.
  • 3.6 Demonstrate ability to produce reliable construction estimates for project bidding, cost accounting and budget preparation.
  • 4.1 Develop building plans based on interpretation of local city building codes and specifications.
  • 4.2 Analyze building processes, systems, techniques, materials and plans to construct a typical dwelling and/or commercial building.
  • 5.1 Demonstrate knowledge of building construction project management principles and practices in the public and private sectors.
  • 5.2 Assess construction practices by applying knowledge of safety, structural properties of materials, and construction systems and methods.
  • 6.1 Demonstrate an awareness of professional growth and commitment in addressing social economic and environmental issues.
  • 6.2 Demonstrate ethical behavior and responsibility.

The methods used to assess student learning and advance students through the Construction Management Engineering Technology program include, but are not limited to, the following:

Student Performance

This program requires 121 credit hours to complete matriculation. The student retention rate for Fall 2020 through Fall 2021 was 77.3%. The six year student graduation rate is 50%. The average GPA is 2.70. The average years to complete the degree is 5.5 years. 

Average Salary

Students graduating from the Construction Management Engineering Program report a starting salary range from $50,000 - $65,000 in annual pay. Graduates average salary was $55,000. Some graduates from this program enrolled into a Master of Science Building Construction program or related degree program.
