NSU Innovation Center Featured in Video Series

The NSU Innovation Center on Main Street in downtown Norfolk is highlighted in the latest segment of videos meant to bring awareness to the Norfolk Innovation Corridor. The Norfolk Innovation Corridor is a thriving Technology Zone supporting resilience products, services and technologies. It stretches from Norfolk State University to Old Dominion University, runs through the heart of downtown Norfolk and includes the medical center complex. Watch the video here.


Binoculars for Change: Encouraging Inner-City Black Girls to Consider Ornithology

Alumna Named Virginia’s 2021 NAESP National Outstanding Assistant Principal

Diana Brown, assistant principal of Seatack Achievable Dream Academy in Virginia Beach, was selected as Virginia’s 2021 NAESP National Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year (NOAP). The award, presented by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals (VAESP), honors assistant principals who are doing a superb job in their positions and have brought about positive change in their respective schools.

The NOAP program promotes educational excellence for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade (PreK-8) schooling and calls attention to the fundamental importance of the assistant principal in every school. Brown holds a Bachelor of Science in English and a Master’s in Education from Norfolk State University, an administrative certification and an Educational Specialist degree from George Washington University. She will be honored at the Annual VAESP Conference in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and at the NAESP Pre-K-8 Principals Conference in Chicago.


Norfolk State and Coast Guard Renew Partnership

NSU President (left) and U.S. Coast Guard Vice Admiral Steven Poulin (right) signed the memorandum agreement Friday, March 26. Under the Pre-Commissioning Initiative, NSU students who enter the program receive a funded education, financial support and leadership training. They are commissioned into the Coast Guard upon graduation and successful completion of Officer Candidate School.
