Led by award-winning actor, director and educator Professor Anthony Stockard, Norfolk State University's Drama & Theatre Program has collected numerous national awards and recognitions in drama & theatre which include:

  • 2017-2018 Best Fine Arts Program at The 2017 HBCU Awards in Washington, D.C.
  • 2016 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival National Awards for Distinguished Performance & Production Ensemble and Distinguished Performance by an Actor in a Play.
  • Consecutive selection to the 2015, 2017 & 2019 National Black Theatre Festivals.

Rigorous and immersive classroom instruction, taught by working professional artists, in state-of the-art facilities, is enhanced by workshops, Q&A's, guest lectures and training sessions from consummate artists that include Broadway and Hollywood stars. Students in drama are consistently presented with opportunities to train, participate and compete in regional and national festivals, competitions and conferences. In addition, many students enjoy working professionally at area theatres while pursuing their undergraduate degree.
