NC-SARA Student Complaint Process
Every student deserves a positive educational experience. Sometimes a student’s experience may not be what they anticipate, and the student may have a concern or a complaint.
Norfolk State University is authorized by the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer distance education programs and is a participating institution of the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), which allows online delivery of distance education to other member states. Students in California, which is not a member of SARA, may contact the state Attorney General Office of California or the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education. The University is committed to addressing student concerns in a fair, timely, and respectful manner.
Students are encouraged to first attempt to resolve any complaint or grievance through the University’s established academic and administrative processes. The following NSU resources contain additional information on complaints and procedures.
If a complaint related to a distance education course or program cannot be resolved at the institutional level, students residing in Virginia or enrolled in a Norfolk State University online program may file a complaint with the Virginia State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), which serves as the State Portal Entity for NC-SARA.
