One of the area’s newest concert
halls, the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center is
located on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State
University. The Center, which seats 1,800 people, has
curvilinear and elegant designs.
In addition to the concert hall, the
Wilder Center has a full theatrical stage, excellent
acoustics, houses an atrium, three large conference
rooms and assigned offices that will more than meet your
expectations. A grand staircase and an exquisite spiral
chandelier also serve as the focal point of this
magnificent and luxurious venue.
The Wilder Center has hosted a
broad spectrum of events, which include premier
classical and jazz performances, conferences, historic
lectures and notable educational forums. Highly
acclaimed national and international artists such as the
Russian Ballet, the President of the United States’
Marine Band, Russell Simmons’ Black Authors on Tour, The
Virginia Symphony, and the American Theatre Arts for
Youth, Inc. have been showcased at the Wilder Center.

entertain through the presentation of artistic events of
excellence and diversity in the performing arts and
thereby ensure the viability of art in all its forms.
