Freshman Convocation will be Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 12:30 a.m. in the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center

On Thursday, September 21, 2023 the University will pause to celebrate its rich past and its promising future as well as welcome the Class of 2027 with the  Freshman Convocation. This year, the University will welcome the Class of 2027 with a live in-person Freshman Convocation Ceremony. Markus Gillis is the owner and Chief Executive Officer of Business Integration Group LLC. Markus founded BiG in 2010 with the vision of providing excellent, dependable business and technical services.

Throughout his career, Markus has successfully orchestrated innovative program management strategies to improve overall customer experience, increase revenue streams, and bring profit to the bottom line. Combining a knack for innovation with an ability to motivate and manage people, Markus has helped multiple organizations grow by increasing business value and reducing company risk. With a business administration background, he has focused his energy on applying project management methodologies in ways that have benefited both government and large-scale businesses.

Markus excels at understanding and representing user needs, process improvement, and strategic planning. His focus on prioritizing product features and capabilities to work across the entire software development life cycle has helped companies streamline processes and procedures for more straightforward and speedier software releases.

Markus is an expert in building winning teams.  He has over ten years of industry experience, leading various teams to design, build, and deploy software across multiple collaborative environments. He has implemented frameworks for efficiently managing project portfolios, optimizing resources, and increasing team capacity.

Markus earned his undergraduate degree from Norfolk State University in Computer Science, his Masters of Business Administration from Strayer University, and his MIS-Cybersecurity degree from George Mason University. Markus enjoys working out, fulfilling his "Honey Do List" obligations, and spending time with family and friends.
