History and Interdisciplinary Studies Programs

We offer five curricula in history and three in interdisciplinary studies, plus minors in history, interdisciplinary studies and Africana Studies.

  • B.A. in History
    A degree in History provides students with a critical intellectual framework to assess and understand human affairs.
  • Minor in History
    Students wishing to minor in history must take a total of 15 credit hours in history.
  • B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies
    Interdisciplinary Studies is a curriculum that allows students to integrate two or three concentration areas in a meaningful way to meet their post-graduation goals.
  • Minor in Interdisciplinary Studies
    Students wishing to minor in interdisciplinary studies must take 18 credit hours of interdisciplinary studies courses.
  • Minor in Africana Studies
    Students wishing to minor in Africana Studies can complete 18 credit hours of courses, including a introductory seminar in Africana studies and 15 credit hours of additional courses.

B.A. in History Curricula

B.A. in History and Online B.A. in History
Our department offers in-person and fully-online degrees in history. In addition, all interdisciplinary studies courses and most history courses are offered both online and face-to-face.

B.A in History-Military Science (Army) and B.A. in History-Military Science (Navy)
The Department offers curricula for ROTC-Army and ROTC-Navy students in both history and interdisciplinary studies.

B.A. in History-Social Science (Pre-Licensure) 
Those who opt to take the History-Social Science Pre-Licensure track take courses in secondary education as well as history, political science and geography to earn their license to teach secondary school social studies in Virginia.


B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies Curricula

B.A./B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies and Online B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies
Our department offers fully-online and in person degrees in interdisciplinary studies. In addition, all interdisciplinary studies courses and most history courses are offered both online and face-to-face.

B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies 3 Year Option
This curriculum is accelerated and allows students to finish a full B.S. in three years including two summer sessions. This curriculum is an excellent choice for highly-motivated first-time freshmen who want to complete their degree quickly to enter the workforce or graduate school.

B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies-Military
This program is for active duty or retired military personnel and allows them to make use of their JST and transfer credits for degree completion.


Africana Studies

 

Minor in Africana Studies
The program underscores the connection between the formation of racial and ethnic identities and economic developments in their surrounding societies.
