Co-curricular Opportunities

Guest Artist Lectures & Workshops
Guest Artists from theatre, television and film are brought in from all over the country to conduct lectures and workshops, as well as participate in Q&As and panel disscissions.

Conferences & Auditions
Students who show tremendous promise are given the opportunity to receive funding to help assist with attending conferences and major audition opportunities such as Southeastern Theatre Conference, United States Institute for Theatre Technology, Virginia Theatre Conference, United Professional Theatre Auditions, University Resident Theatre Association and others.

Theatre Festivals
Students in productions that are selected for theatre festival presentation enjoy fully funded opportunities to travel with the production and perform.  Recent festival selections have included Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, National Black Theatre Festival and Virginia Theatre Festival.

Professional Partnerships
Co-productions with area professional theatres afford students the opportunity to perform in professional union productions while pursuing their degree.  Our lead partner, Virginia Stage Company has co-produced The Wiz and The Parchman Hour with us and will co-produce The Bluest Eye with us in Spring 2019.

Students have also been cast in major roles, worked in stage management and in production outside of our co-production at Virginia Stage Company and other area theatres.

Travel & Research
Trips to see productions in Hampton Roads, D.C., Baltimore and New York are occasional funded opportunities for students to gain exposure to professional grade theatre experiences.
