Upward Bound

The purpose of Upward Bound is assisting students in the development of skills and motivation necessary to succeeding both in high school and beyond. Admission to Upward Bound is not automatic; students and their parents/guardians must complete this lengthy application and have an applicant interview.

Upward Bound is a federally funded TRiO program working with 62 students from 8 target high schools from the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, Va. Participants are interested in sharpening their academic skills and pursuing education after high school graduation.

About the Upward Bound Project at Norfolk State University

Upward Bound is a program for high school students who are considering continuing their education after graduation. Attainment of a higher-education degree is one of the most important influences on economic well being and Upward Bound stands committed to working with students to facilitate this goal.
