Welcome to the Virtual Veterans Affairs Office

... of Student Affairs

The staff of the Veterans Affairs Office welcomes all veterans, eligible dependents, members of the Guard and Reserves, and Active Duty personnel to Norfolk State University. Your Veterans Affairs, Federal and State education benefits are part of your compensation for the time devoted to or spent serving your country. They are designed to help you afford a college education.

Veterans applying for educational programs may enroll in special college and terminal curricula, but must be matriculating towards a degree or testing for program licensing or certification in order to receive benefits. All students who wish to receive VA education benefits MUST complete the matriculation process. Students receiving benefits must maintain satisfactory progress throughout their program of study in accordance with Norfolk State University and VA Standards of Progress.

Veterans Affairs Services

The Veterans Affairs Office serves as a liaison between the NSU student veteran and dependents and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA).  We assist eligible student Veterans, Active Servicepersons, Dependents, Reservists, and dependents with the processing of VA forms for DVA education benefits, advise students about certain procedural requirements, and certify enrollment of veterans and dependents to the DVA. Our main goal is to provide timely and proper service for educational assistance benefit programs and other supportive services to the veteran and eligible dependents enrolled at Norfolk State University.

Monthly payment is determined by the number of credit hours for which the student is enrolled. Veterans applying for educational assistance programs may enroll in special college and terminal curricula, but must be matriculating towards a degree or testing for program licensing or certification in order to receive benefits.  All students who wish to receive VA education benefits MUST complete the matriculation process.  Students receiving benefits must maintain satisfactory progress throughout their program of study in accordance with Norfolk State University and VA Standards of Progress.

Applications and information packets for VA educational benefits are available in the Office of Veterans Affairs and on this website. Upon admission, students who are eligible for Veterans Administration education benefits should contact the Office of Veterans Affairs.
