Understanding Summer Enrollment and VA Calculation of Training Times
For the purposes of veteran and certain veteran dependents’ educational assistance benefits, the summer session is a non-standard accelerated term. During this session, a student's training time is not determined by the total number of hours certified for the term as in the fall and spring semesters and training times depend upon the number of hours certified and the session(s) in which the course(s) is offered. Depending upon the complexity of the enrollment, training times may change several times during the summer session.

Veterans Affairs Services |
|
|
|
The Veterans
Affairs Office serves as a liaison
between the NSU student veteran and
dependents and the U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs (DVA). We assist
eligible student Veterans, Active
Servicepersons, Dependents, Reservists,
and dependents with the processing of VA
forms for DVA education benefits, advise
students about certain procedural
requirements, and certify enrollment of
veterans and dependents to the DVA. Our
main goal is to provide timely and
proper service for educational
assistance benefit programs and other
supportive services to the veteran and
eligible dependents enrolled at Norfolk
State University.
Monthly payment
is determined by the number of credit
hours for which the student is enrolled.
Veterans applying for educational
assistance programs may enroll in
special college and terminal curricula,
but must be matriculating towards a
degree or testing for program licensing
or certification in order to receive
benefits. All students who wish to
receive VA education benefits MUST
complete the matriculation process.
Students receiving benefits must
maintain satisfactory progress
throughout their program of study in
accordance with Norfolk State University
and VA Standards of Progress.
Applications and information packets for
VA educational benefits are available in
the Office of Veterans Affairs and on
this website. Upon admission, students
who are eligible for Veterans
Administration education benefits should
contact the Office of Veterans Affairs.
