Obtaining A Card

STUDENTS

In order to obtain a SpartanCard, you must be a registered student for the term in which you are requesting the ID. This means that you cannot be issued a card if you are not currently registered for classes, This is true even if you are planning on registering for future classes. Students receiving their ID prior to the start of the semester and/or before their scheduled new student orientation must bring a copy of their student schedule.

Where and what to bring - The SpartanCard is issued by the SpartanCard Office. You must bring official government-issued photo ID (driver's license, international passport, military ID, etc.), no copies of IDs will be accepted, no exceptions.

ONLINE PHOTO SUBMISSION

All students attending Norfolk State University will have the opportunity to send in a photo for their SpartanCard. This means new students, readmitted students, and students in need of a replacement card can now submit an Online Photo Submission. These students must complete the Online Photo Submission Agreement form and send it along with a photo that meet the specific guidelines on the Photo Submission form and email it to spartancardphoto@nsu.edu. All documents must be submitted to the SpartanCard office from their NSU email. In the subject title use: [First Name, Last Name] SpartanCard Photo Submission.

*For replacements please add Replacement in the subject line.*

New and Readmitted Students must complete the Online Photo Submission Form and once the photo is approved they will receive a notification for an in-person pick up at the SpartanCard Office. The student must have a form of Government Issued identification to receive a SpartanCard. *To be considered as a readmitted student, the applicant must be separated from the university for a full year or more. If the applicant has been separated from the university for less than a year it will be considered as a replacement card*

For Replacement Cards the student must complete the Online Photo Submission Form and place $25 onto their SpartanCard account either from MyNSU, SpartanCard Online, or through the Cashier’s office. Once the payment has been received and the student’s photo has been approved, an approval notification will be sent to their NSU email to arrange for ID pick up.

Please allow 48 business hours for the request to be processed. You will be notified if the photo does not meet the requirements, and this may increase the processing time.

DISTANCE EDUCATION STUDENTS/NSU ONLINE

In order to receive your SpartanCard ID number, so you may purchase books online through the campus bookstore, please complete the Distance Education Student Agreement, and email it to spartancard@nsu.edu. It is required that your NSU ID# be listed on all documents submitted to the SpartanCard office and be sent from your NSU email account using a subject like: NSU Online.

 You will not receive a physical card, the only way to receive a physical card is to appear in person at the SpartanCard Office.

Please allow 48 business hours for the request to be processed. The request will not be processed if the directions are not followed or information is incomplete or missing. You will be notified if this happens and will be required to resubmit your request, and initial processing times will apply

FACULTY AND STAFF

The Human Resources department is responsible for entering your information into the NSU Financial system, as well as submitting the SpartanCard ID Request form via e-mail in order for you to obtain an ID. It is required that you attend new hire orientation with HR before your information is processed.

Once your information has been entered into the system, you will then be able to obtain your NSU SpartanCard. The SpartanCard office suggests that you call us at (757) 823-9479 to check if you have been processed before coming to our office to receive your ID. Where and what to bring - The SpartanCard is issued by the SpartanCard Office. You must bring an official government-issued photo ID (driver's license, international passport, military ID, etc.), no copies of IDs will be accepted, no exceptions. The SpartanCard Office does not accept letters, emails or phone calls as valid authorization for a SpartanCard.

VENDORS/CONTRACTORS/ TEMPORARY/AFFILIATES

The SpartanCard ID Request form must be received via email to request SpartanCards for all vendors, contractors, temporary workers, and affiliates of the University. Request by phone, fax, or word-of-mouth are nor accepted.

The department for which you are employed or affiliated is responsible for sending the SpartanCard ID Request form by email to spartancard@nsu.edu before you can be issued a SpartanCard.
