University Police

WE CARE WE ARE COMMITTED TO SERVE AND PROTECT TOGETHER WE CAN MAINTAIN A SAFE AND SECURE COMMUNITY!

The Norfolk State University Police Department continues to be responsible for the safety and security of all members of the University community. As the department continues to serve and protect, please note that Norfolk State University is a public/urban institution located in the City of Norfolk, Virginia.

The University remains an open community where students, faculty and staff are on campus during many hours of the day and night. In its urban setting, the University shares many of the same concerns that exist in the surrounding communities. It is important, however, for all members of the community to take personal responsibility for safety, as well as become “security conscious” in order to avoid actions that jeopardize safety.

Important Information

Incidents may be reported in person or by dialing the non-emergency number at 823-8102.

In emergency situations, dial 823-9000 or the non-emergency number.

It is the purpose of the Safety & Security Campus Report to inform the University community about campus security policies and procedures. It is also intended to provide information on police and security support services and programs. These services have been developed to encourage an environment supportive of education, research, and extracurricular activities.

The department encourages all members of the community to follow the suggestions in this booklet, as it will greatly reduce the risk of victimization. Safety and security are personal and shared responsibilities.

Effective prevention and reduction of crime require the community’s help, support and cooperation.

Campus Safety Survey

Campus safety is extremely important. The NSU Police Department requests your assistance in completing the Campus Safety Survey. This is your opportunity to provide feedback regarding campus safety issues from the perspective of a student at Norfolk State University.
