NSU Board of Visitors Member BK Fulton to Speak at NSU 2019 Fall Commencement Ceremony

(NSU Newsroom — Nov. 22, 2019) — Norfolk State University Board of Visitors (BOV) Member BK Fulton, a seasoned corporate executive and founder of Soulidifly Productions, a Richmond-based film and production company, will deliver the commencement address at Norfolk State University’s 2019 Fall Commencement Ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall where more than 325 students are expected to earn their undergraduate or advanced degrees.
 
Fulton, a member of the university’s board of visitors since 2016, is the former regional vice president of Verizon Communications Inc. where he led over 44,000 colleagues in Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Delaware. The media entrepreneur and intellectual property lawyer started his film company in 2017, shortly after retiring from Verizon. Fulton’s media firm is the first independent film company in the history of cinema to produce four feature films in its first year - River Runs Red (starring Taye Diggs, John Cusack, George Lopez and Luke Hemsworth), 1 Angry Black Man (starring Miguel Nunez and introducing Keith Stone), Atone (starring Jacqueline Fleming and Columbus Short) and Love Dot Com: The Social Experiment (starring Kym Whitley, Lisa Raye McCoy, Raheem DeVaughn, Charles Malik Whitfield, Tobias Truvillion and Brave Williams).
 
Fulton has held senior leadership, media, technology and policy development posts with the U.S. Department of Commerce, AOL, Time Warner and the National Urban League among others. Fulton said he is excited to talk with future Spartan graduates and hopes his commencement address will help inspire students to “dream bigger” in their educational, career and personal endeavors.  
 
“Norfolk State University is a special place,” Fulton said. “I consider it a privilege and an honor to share life lessons with the Fall 2019 graduating class.” 
 
In addition to undergraduate students who will earn their college diplomas, Norfolk State University administrators will present more than 50 master’s degrees to graduate-level students and three doctoral degrees.Also during the ceremony, several Navy ROTC and Army ROTC students will take their oath of commissioned officers for their respective military branches.
