QMHP and SW Licensing

QMHP

The Qualified Mental Health Professionals (QMHP) credentialing process is administered by the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Counseling.  It is best that applicants initially contact the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Counseling to receive up to date information on the process.  If you completed your BSW or MSW degrees here at Norfolk State University, please contact the Office of Field Instruction for verification of internship hours ONLY.   Contact the Director of BSW Field Education, Dr. Sonya Robinson (srobinson@nsu.edu) or Director of MSW Field Education, Ms. Paris Holley (pdholly@nsu.edu).

Social Work Licensing

After completion of your degree in social work, we urge students to sit for licensure at the appropriate level.  In the State of Virginia, social workers can be licensed at the Baccalaureate (Bachelors), Clinical, and/or Master's Level.  It is best that applicants initially contact the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Social Work to receive up to date information on the licensing process.  If you are a potential or current student, please see the Licensing Disclosures posted here on our website and contact the social work board where you want to be licensed to ensure our degree programs qualify for licensure in your jurisdiction. If you are seeking verification for social work licensing, please contact either the BSW Program Director, Dr. Insoo Chung (ichung@nsu.edu) or the MSW Program Director, Dr. Breshell Jackson-Nevels (bjnevels@nsu.edu).
