Polling Places

If students are registered using their campus address, they will vote at one of two polling places.

Students at Spartan Suites will vote at Chesterfield Elementary School - located at 2915 Westminster Avenue.

Students registered on campus at all other dorms will vote at Jordan-Newby Library - located at 961 Park Avenue (across from Booker T. Washington High School).

Students who are registered from their NSU campus address must vote in person on Election Day.

The polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 8.

Please bring valid photo identification (such as a Virginia Driver’s License, VA DMV-identification or NSU Student ID).

Voter Registration Status Reminder

Check voter registration status online through the Virginia Department of Elections at www.vote.virginia.gov

Students who are registered in another locality within Virginia can request an absentee ballot as they are attending university away from their residence address (code 1A).

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5 p.m. tomorrow, November 1. Applications can be submitted online through the Virginia Department of Elections at the above website address.

College Students - Registering from a Residence

College students can choose to register from their home residence or campus residence. If a student registers from his/her home residence, he/she can also request an absentee ballot be sent to their campus address.

College Students - Registering from a Campus Address

If a student registers from his/her campus address, he/she must vote in person on Election Day. When registering from a campus address, please be sure to indicate your mailing address and Dorm name & Room Number (ex. 700 Park Avenue, Rosa Alexander Hall Rm 123, Norfolk, VA 23504 -or- 2601 Corprew Avenue, Spartan Suites, Apt 123, Norfolk, VA 23504). If you have a Mailbox assigned, you can also indicate your Mailbox number.

College Students - Out of State Resident

If you are an out of state resident and would like to register to vote, please visit the The U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

College Students - Virginia Resident

If you are a Virginia Resident, you can register to vote online through www.vote.virginia.gov

Students registering online in Virginia will be required to include their Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) identification number or Driver’s License number to attach your electronic signature on file with the DMV to your voter registration application for processing.

Checking Voter Registration Status

You can check your voter registration status, register to vote and/or request an absentee ballot (if you are attending a University away from your residence address), by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections website

Deadlines

The deadline to register to vote for the November 8th General Election is 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 17th.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail in Virginia is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1st.

Age Requirements

In order to register to vote for this election, you must be at least 18 years of age on or before the November 7, 2017 General Election.

Important Reminders

Once registered, check your polling place to know where you should vote on Election Day. Remember to bring a valid form of photo identification with you to the polling place (Virginia Driver’s License, Virginia DMV-issued identification card, NSU Student ID, etc.).

The polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day in Virginia.
