University Kicks Off I AM NSU Campaign
(NSU NEWSROOM--Jan. 17, 2014)--Norfolk State University launched its annual Administrator, Faculty and Staff Campaign. Themed “I AM NSU…Because of our Students,” the campaign seeks to show the University’s impact on its students, faculty, staff, administrators and community.
“Today, we have gathered to launch our fundraising campaign among our largest supporters – our administrators, faculty and staff,” said Dr. Deborah C. Fontaine, interim vice president for university advancement. “You continue to help us change the lives of students every day. And with your continued support, I know we will keep this great tradition going.”
The administrator, faculty and staff campaign has a goal of $185,000. It is also aiming for 100 percent participation from administrators, faculty and staff as well as 90 leadership gifts at the $1,000-plus level. The administrator, faculty and staff campaign ends March 7.
“Your contributions to the Annual Administrators, Faculty, Staff I AM NSU Because of Our Students Campaign empowers, students like me, to achieve our dreams,” senior mass communications major Jasmine Barmer said at the kickoff. “Thanks to financial aid and scholarship support from Norfolk State University and donors like you in this room, I was able to attend NSU. And, that’s why I have made it as far as I have today.”
Campaign co-chair Nash Montgomery told those in attendance that $500 can pay for a semester of books for several majors or pay for a commuter meal plan for an off-campus student; a gift of $1,000 can pay for a semester of books for a science or accounting major; and a $5,000 gift provides an honors student with enough funds to decline a loan, which will reduce that student’s loan debt.
“These are only a few examples,” said Montgomery, “of what your giving means and what your giving does to impact the lives of NSU students.”
