  Laws Provides Insight

Dr. Page Laws, dean of the NSU Honors College, was a discussant/session facilitator at a “by-invitation-only” national conference attended by scholars from Notre Dame, Yale, Columbia University, and other institutions discussing the topic “The Research University and the Liberal Arts College: Examination of the Research Ideal and Liberal Education.” She also delivered a talk to eight high school interns from The Virginian-Pilot, in which she compared different community perspectives on historical events, using the coverage of the assassination of Malcolm X by the Norfolk Journal and Guide and The Virginian-Pilot as her main example.

Dr. Bennie L. Marshall, chair and professor of nursing, was recognized as one of 120 Visionary Leaders at the 120th Anniversary Celebration of Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Nursing. Dr. Marshall is a 1970 VCU graduate and the third African American to graduate from VCU after integration of the school.
