Thurgood Marshall Grant
Norfolk State University, through the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. The grant, “Beyond STARS: Extended Research Experiences for Undergraduates in Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics,” will support the undergraduate summer research program and provide stipends for students to continue their work in the fall.
Patrice Johnson, student loan coordinator, and Kesha Wilson, financial aid counselor, both in the Office of Financial Aid, were elected to the board of directors of the 684-member Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) during the association’s recent spring conference. Wilson was elected secretary and Johnson was elected as a representative-at-large. They will serve two-year terms.
Cyndi Barnett, benefits specialist, joins Rebecca Powell in the benefits office in the Office of Human Resources. Barnett, who has more than 17 years of benefits experience with the Commonwealth, began working in May.
