Hobson Earns Doctoral Degree
Lori M. Hobson ’79, senior staff counselor in the University Counseling Center, completed her Doctor of Education with a concentration in organizational leadership. Dr. Hobson’s research was focused on resilience in women leaders. She is a graduate of the Spartan Leadership Institute and a senior fellow of the Norfolk State University Honors College. Dr. Khadijah Miller, chair of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, and Dr. Ernestine Duncan, associate professor and acting chair in the Department of Psychology, presented at the 2012 MAPACA Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. The presentation, "Ladies Who Do Not Lunch: The White House First Ladies: Contemporary Representations of American Popular Culture,” addressed the intersectionality of gender, power and race on the office of the First Lady with a special emphasis on Michelle Obama. WNSB 90.1 FM was awarded second year funding in the amount of $58,110 for its project, “Radio Community Services Grant.” This grant—developed by Douglas Perry, WNSB program director, and coordinated by Dr. Wanda Brockington, mass communications and journalism chair—is active through September 30, 2013.
