Can you help my son/daughter choose a major?
Yes we can. Our staff members can meet with undeclared students, as well as students who are considering changing their major, to help them explore majors and careers. We also offer an assessment to evaluate students' work values, interests, and personality type. The Career Services staff member will discuss the assessment results and their implications for career-related decisions during career coaching sessions with students.
Can you help my son/daughter find a job?
Our staff members assist students with every step of the job search process, whether they are looking for a part-time job, an internship or co-op position, or a full-time job upon graduation. We help students develop their resumes, write cover letters, and prepare for interviews. Students can open a Spartan Link account to search for online job postings and apply for on-campus interviews. We also provide individual career coaching to advise students on effective job search strategies and resources, and to help students make career-related decisions.
What kind of jobs have NSU graduates been offered upon graduation?
Recent graduates have landed jobs in areas such as accounting, engineering and multimedia locally, regionally and nationally.
I'm worried that my son/daughter won't be able to find a job related to his/her major. Can you help?
Each of our career services staff members works with all majors. Students can meet with our staff to discuss career options related to their major, typical entry-level salary ranges in different career fields, and the job market for different industries.
Will my son/daughter be able to find a job in this economy?
While the job search is certainly more challenging in a difficult economy, we have found that with a little more effort and time, our students can be successful in their job search. Students can meet with their career consultants to learn how to be more competitive in their job search. For example, we encourage students to write tailored cover letters, to be strategic in the development of their resume, and to pursue relevant experience through internships and co-ops while they are still students.
Can my son/daughter make an appointment with a Career Services staff member?
Yes they can! Please contact our office to schedule an appointment@ 757-823-8462.
