Program Requirements

Urban Education Degree Program Requirements

The Community Counseling program requires that applicants:

  • Have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Submit a complete Graduate application
  • Submit a personal statement of the applicant’s professional interests and goals
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty or employers familiar with the applicant's academic and professional background
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

The School Counseling PreK-12 program requires that applicants:

  • Have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Submit a complete Graduate application
  • Submit a personal statement of the applicant’s professional interests and goals
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty or employers familiar with the applicant's academic and professional background
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

The Administration and Supervision PreK-12 program requires that applicants:

  • Have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Submit a complete Graduate application
  • Submit a personal statement of the applicant’s professional interests and goals
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty or employers familiar with the applicant's academic and professional background.  One of the letters must be written by a Current School Administrator.
  • Submit a Resume
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Must have at least three years of experience as a certified teacher.  Provisional licensure is not accepted.


The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program requires that applicants:

  • Pass Praxis Core/ SAT/ ACT
  • Have an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Submit a complete Graduate application
  • Submit a personal statement of the applicant’s professional interests and goals
  • Submit three letters of recommendation from faculty or employers familiar with the applicant's academic and professional background
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  • Submit a Certificate of Preliminary Endorsement form which has been completed by an advisor in the academic department of intended major
  • Pass Praxis II & VCLA
