We offer a variety of services to both faculty, and students. For faculty as a follow-up to be abreast of the programs and strategies that we have in place to assist our student body in their goal of successful matriculating through the halls of academia.
SSC Academic Advising focuses on establishing intentional partnership with students that leads to academic success.
Dr. Watson-Miller is the Coordinator of the Examination of Writing Competency. She works with the Director of the English Writing Center and the Director of Assessment to help students to successfully complete the EWC requirement. Students may contact her before and after the test to assess their writing, to review their test, and set up an individualized writing session.
The SSC Mentoring program supports and encourages incoming freshmen in their academic, social and personal growth at NSU.
The SSC Outreach program serves as a link to the university’s rich resources. Students, faculty, and staff share their expertise and energy with schools, businesses, local government, and community organizations.
Dr. Hoy is the appointed Retention Czar. Along with a dynamite team, she is available to do whatever is necessary to promote student success through graduation including advising, mentoring, and referring. As with everyone in the center, they are here to serve all Spartans.
The NSU SSC S.P.A.R.C. (Spartans Preparing for Academic Rigor in College) Summer Bridge program is a four-week, non-residential program that assists college freshmen with their transition to higher education.
The Sophomore Experience program is designed to retain sophomore students at Norfolk State University by providing innovative and intrusive academic advising, connecting students to campus resources, and developing programs that guide students towards declaration of a major and eventual graduation.
The SSC Peer Tutoring program is an academic support program that provides assistance for developing essential academic skills in regular credit-bearing courses.
