As the Labor Day Classic football game (Norfolk State vs. Virginia State) returns to William “Dick” Price Stadium September 2, the two institutions will stage another competition – a fundraising one. The Battle of the States is a fundraising competition between NSU and VSU to see which school can raise the most money from individual donors among their alumni, friends and supporters. It will begin Monday, August 28, at noon EST and end Saturday, September 2, at halftime of the Labor Day Classic football game. The goal is to raise $50,000.
In honor of NSU’s founding in 1935, donors are asked to make a minimum gift of $19.35. Any and all gifts are appreciated. Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet may participate in the Battle of the States fundraising challenge. Checks may be mailed, but must be received by Friday, September 1, at 4 p.m. In-person checks must be received by Saturday, September 2, at halftime to count towards the Battle of the States. MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express are accepted through the online payment system at www.nsu.edu/givenow. - Flyer - pdf
Support from everyone in the NSU community (alumni, family, friends, fans, staff and students) counts for this initiative. Gifts are tax-deductible and donors will receive an email confirmation that will serve as a receipt for tax purposes.
