I believe being a presidential scholar means that the designee is a representative of the finest academic achievement at Norfolk State University. Being a presidential scholar has motivated me to stay focused on my work, educational and professional goals. I am networking more than ever and have made connections across campus and throughout the Hampton Roads region.

A typical day for me starts with classes. In between classes, I am in the STARS Tutoring Center helping students taking STEM courses. Once or twice a week, I visit the Richard Bowling Elementary School to help fourth and fifth graders with their math and science course work. Then it’s back to my dorm room for studying and homework. The Presidential Scholars program has taught me discipline and enabled me to engage with diverse students at both NSU and in the local public school system. I feel this program has made me into the kind of student who steps out of my comfort zone to pursue goals I might not have taken on otherwise.

The Presidential Scholars Fund is academically motivating and the representatives of the fund exhibit a feeling of honor and pride. The program represents the encouragement and support that the University has for all of its students.
