Gov. Terry McAuliffe recently appointed two new members to the Norfolk State University Board of Visitors. The newest board members are Corynne S. Arnett and Rodney O. Powell.
Arnett, of Richmond, is the vice president of financial management at Dominion Energy Inc. She is responsible for the financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting functions and generation system planning. Arnett, a certified public accountant, has been with the energy company since 1997 and has held several positions. Arnett is a graduate of Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. She immediately joins the board to complete the unexpired term of former member Thomas N. Chewning. The term expires June 30, 2018.
Powell, of West Hartford, Connecticut, is president, Corporate Citizenship, for Eversource Energy. Powell is responsible for directing and managing the Eversource Energy Foundation and the company’s social responsibility programs and philanthropic strategy. Powell is an alumnus of Norfolk State University.
In addition to McAuliffe’s new appointments, he also reappointed Norfolk State University Rector Dr. Byron L. Cherry and Vice Rector Dr. Melvin T. Stith to the Board of Visitors. Both are graduates of Norfolk State and have served on the board for the past four years. The terms for Powell, Cherry and Stith will begin on July 1 and continue through June 30, 2021.
The governor appointed more than 50 members to university boards, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and the State Board for community colleges. Norfolk State University President and CEO Eddie N. Moore Jr. said he is pleased to work with the full board for the upcoming 2017-18 academic year. The University is projecting a freshman class of more than 1,000 students. “The Norfolk State University family welcomes our two new Board of Visitors members, and I look forward to working very closely with the entire board to reposition the institution for greater success.”
