Norfolk State University assistant women’s track and field coach Yvette Lewis has been selected to attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy later this spring.
The WCA, hosted in partnership between the Alliance of Women Coaches and the NCAA, is a four-day educational training session open to NCAA coaches of all experience levels that offers non-sport-specific program management strategies. The WCA’s primary focus is on philosophy development and increasing knowledge about planning, communication, legal issues, ethics, hiring, supervising staff, conflict resolution, learning styles and achieving success.
Lewis will attend this year’s WCA program in Denver from May 31-June 3. She is in her first year at NSU after serving as an assistant at her alma mater, Hampton University, for four seasons. A two-time NCAA national champion and 2016 Olympian, Lewis works primarily with the hurdlers, jumpers and sprinters on the Spartan women’s track and field team.
