Executive Order Issued on HBCUs
President Trump welcomes the leaders of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on historically black colleges and universities. Under the order, Trump moved the Initiative on HBCU’s from the Department of Education to the Executive Office of the President, a move that has been touted as a way to increase the capacity of HBCU’s through more visibility. It directs the initiative to increase the private sector role in strengthening HBCU’s and requires federal agencies to develop and carry out plans to assist the higher education institutions. Trump signed the order in the presence of the more than 80 HBCU presidents who also had meetings with Education officials and Congressional members.
