Degrees in History
Majoring in history can be the start of many career paths. History majors go on to become teachers, lawyers, researchers, public policy officials, archivists and librarians, law enforcement officials, editors, writers, military officers and politicians. The skills you develop in research, writing and communication will serve you well in whatever career path you choose.
The history department offers the following five degree programs:
B.A. in History
B.A. in History (Online)
Pre-Licensure in History-Social Science (B.A.) for prospective high school social studies teachers
B.A. in History-Military Science (Army)
B.A. in History-Military Science (Navy)
The History Department also offers a Certificate Program in the African Diaspora and Diasporan Studies and a Minor in History.
The department offers a number of career planning seminars and events throughout the academic year as well as one-on-one advice from your academic adviser. Many of our faculty have work experience outside of academia and will be happy to help you figure out how you will apply your history degree in the workforce.
