Optical Engineering
Master's course curriculum

Students pursuing the Master of Science in Optical Engineering must successfully complete a graduate core curriculum which include the following:

Core (Required) Graduate Courses

OEN 525 Mathematics for Optical Engineering 3 credit hrs
OEN 520 Optical Design and Instrumentation 3 credit hrs
OEN 540 Lasers and Photonics 3 credit hrs
OEN 590 Research Methods 1 credit hr
OEN 530 Optical Materials 3 credit hrs
OEN 561 Optical Communications I 3 credit hrs
OEN 580 Quantum Mechanics 3credit hrs

Students may choose a Master’s degree program with or without the thesis option. If a student chooses to complete the M.S. degree without a thesis, a minimum of 30 semester hours of course work must be completed. If a student chooses to complete the M.S. degree with a thesis, then the student must complete 24 credit hours of course work and 6 credit hours devoted to thesis research. Once the core graduate courses are successfully completed, a student may select from the optical materials track and/or the Opto-electronics track to complete the Master’s degree in Optical Engineering.
