Biography

Dr. Bahoura received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Laser and matter in 1993 and 1998, respectively from the University of Paris XI. In 1998, Dr. Bahoura was awarded the Research Associate Fellowship, from the National Research Council, Washington, D.C. to work as Resident Research Associate at NASA-Langley Research Center. At NASA, Dr. Bahoura developed an all-solid-state Terahertz frequency source via frequency difference generation in a nonlinear crystal. In 2000, Dr. Bahoura joined NSU as research associate professor and worked on developing advanced laser powder materials. In 2010, Dr. Bahoura joined the engineering Department as Associate Professor and he is working on the design and development of multifunctional thin films using pulsed laser deposition, magnetron sputtering and atomic layer deposition techniques. Dr Bahoura competency includes nonlinear materials characterization, polymer technology, visible and infrared spectroscopy, Terahertz techniques, and laser systems and optical engineering. Currently, Dr. Bahoura is PI, Co-PI and senior investigator on projects totaling funding of more than $18M from the National science Foundation (NSF) and Department of Defense (DoD). Dr. Bahoura contributed to more than 90 papers, presentations and book-chapters. Dr. Bahoura is peer reviewer of research articles submitted to Optics Express, the IJITCE International Journal of Innovative Technology and Creative Engineering, IEEE-Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement Society and to the Journal of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. In addition Dr. Bahoura is a member of leading societies in his field of research.

2013 Presented nanotechnology hands on experiments for the “Gear up for college”, Gear up summer academy 2013” to over 100 high school students from Phoebus and Hampton high schools, June 17-19, 2013, 8am-3pm, NSU Campus.
2013 Presented fifteen hands on activities about “introduction to Nanotechnology” for more than 50 middle and high school students during the NSU-STEP's STEM Day at NSU on 5-11-2013.
2013 Presented and delivered the 2013 NanoDays hands on activities at the Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth on Saturday April 6th, 2012. Served 1,200 visitors coming from as far as Kentucky, North Carolina, and New Jersey.
2013 Presented a display and exhibit of nanotechnology hands on experiments at the Campostella Elementary, School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math Annual S.T.E.M. Career Fair to more than 200 students K-5 , Thursday, March 28th, 2013.

2012 Developed and delivered a STEM related hands on activities to more than twenty high school student attending the CMR summer research internship for one month, June-July 2012
2012 Developed and delivered two summer camps on Nanotechnology hands on activities at the Children’s Museum in Portsmouth, July-August 2012.
2012 Developed and delivered a Nanotechnology Module hands on activities for a new course STM 101 to 8 Virginia Beach Public High schools serving 50 students. This is an after school STM 101 Course in which students will receive three hours of college elective credit, April 28-May 10th, 2012.
2012 Served as Judge for the 2011 “Coucours du Français” organized by Alliance Française-Chapitre de Grasse in cooperation with area public and private schools, sponsored the eighteenth “Concours de Français” at Granby High school in Norfolk. April 28, 2012.

2006 March thru May, course MATS 710 – Special Topics 2006-mini lectures. Activities included: picking up and dropping off some visiting professors from the Univ. of Washington and GTech, etc., gathering materials for the lectures, taping 21 lectures, printing out lectures schedules, lectures surveys, and attendance sheets. Setting up students’ study sessions, writing quizzes and discussing homework. Attendees 15.
