The Department of Nursing and Allied Health, along with Dr. Alecia McClain in DNIMAS, participated in Sentara's "Black Men in White Coats" event this past weekend. Three hundred youth and parents were projected to attend the Sentara-sponsored event, which was held in the NGE Building.
Dr. Martin, Dr. Smith, Dr. Gardiner and Mr. Stancil were on site to provide hands-on Simulation Lab experiences to the youth. Sixteen (16) nursing students (juniors and seniors) participated in the event by leading teaching sessions and breakout sessions. We had two special youth volunteers in the Simulation Lab, my son Kendal (pictured with nursing students) and his friend Josiah, both 14 years old. We were able to meet and speak with Dr. Adams-Gaston, and the NRAH Team took a picture with her.

CSET Students as L.D. Britt Pre-Medical Scholars at EVMS
Thanks to an EVMS Diversity and Inclusion-led initiative that aims to increase the number of talented Black students entering the health professions, students have a defined path with the L.D. Britt Pre-Medical Scholars program. Named in honor of L.D. Britt, MD, MPH, a pioneering surgeon, researcher, educator and the Chair of EVMS Surgery, the initiative brings in students from historically Black universities in Hampton Roads with whom EVMS has an established BS/MD program.
