Graduating Students Celebrated

Norfolk State’s graduating students were celebrated during the annual senior toast sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. The toast recognizes the triumphs and challenges the graduates have faced on their journey to earning their degrees.

Dr. Michael Shackleford, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, who led the toasts, told the graduates to remember this moment when they face challenges. “Remember how proud you feel, remember the beaming pride shown by your loved ones, and remember that you can accomplish any goal you seek to achieve.”

He asked the students and their family members to raise their glasses filled with ginger ale as he began to make four toasts. “To your family and all who’ve made this journey possible,” he said. “To the good you will do for others. To the success and prosperity that you will enjoy; and, to the history that you will make as prominent alumni.”

After the toast, the graduates enjoyed refreshments with their families and friends. Wilhelmenia Wright Harrison beamed as she took a photo with her grandson Calvin Wright II. “I’m so proud,” said Harrison, who is NSU’s head bowling coach. Wright is earning a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. “I’m excited and nervous,” said Wright, who served in Afghanistan. “I’m ready for this new journey to get started.”
