Commencement Booklet
The Commencement Booklet contains detailed information on Commencement. It is highly recommended that all graduating students review the booklet. 

Commencement Checklist for Graduates

Lost or Stolen Items
It is strongly suggested that graduates leave personal items with family or friends. NSU does not have a location to store these items, and NSU is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Commencement Information

  • Commencement Length

    The ceremony is approximately 2-2.5 hours.
  • Commencement Arrival Time

    The doors to Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall Arena will open at 8:00 a.m. to the general public. The ceremony will begin at 9:00 a.m. 

  • Parking

    Parking will be available throughout the campus. Shuttle services will be available to transport guests from parking lots to Echols Hall. Shuttle services will begin at 7 a.m.

Commencement Attendees

  • General Public

    • Plan to be at the ceremony at least 30 minutes before the posted ceremony start time.
    • Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall arena will open at 8:00 a.m. to the general public.
    •  A ceremony ticket is required for entry to Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall Arena.
    • Please contact your graduate regarding a ceremony ticket.
    • There will be a fair amount of walking in Echols Hall from shuttle drop-off locations and entrance points to guest seating. Guests with limited or restricted mobility should plan accordingly. Limited handicapped seating will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Lost or Stolen Items

    NSU is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Graduates are encouraged to leave personal items, i.e. purses, electronic devices, and other valuable items with family or friends. NSU does not have a location to store these items.

Ticket Information

*Additional tickets are not available. Please do not call the Office of University Events to inquire about additional tickets.

  • Commencement Ticket Information

    The 103rd Commencement will be held in Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall Arena on campus. Commencement tickets are required for entry into Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall Arena.

    Each graduate will be given eight (8) tickets for Echols Hall at the commencement rehearsal. Distribution of ceremony tickets is solely the responsibility of the graduate. Extra tickets will not be available.

  • Ticket Pick up

    Graduates may pick up their tickets at commencement rehearsal on Friday, December 7. Please bring a printed copy showing that you have completed the Graduating Student Exit Survey and your Student ID.

     

  • Extra Additional Tickets

    Unfortunately, no extra tickets are available for this commencement ceremony.

     

Graduate Information

  • Commencement Arrival Time

    Graduates should arrive to campus starting at 7:00 a.m. to pick up name cards from the ticket windows at Price Stadium.

  • Commencement Rehearsal

    Commencement Rehearsal will be on Friday, December 7 at 9:00 a.m. in Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall Arena. Please bring your I.D. and academic hood. 

  • Dress Requirements for Graduates

    From page 17 of the Commencement Booklet: "All graduates, except those being commissioned in ROTC, are required to wear academic attire (Mortar boards and gowns). Men will wear dark suits, white shirts, dark ties, and black shoes. Women will wear black dresses or pants under their robes, black shoes, and no jewelry (exception: watches, rings, and small stud earrings).

  • Identification

    Please bring your Student Identification card and wear the appropriate academic attire.

Faculty

  • Participating Faculty

    Faculty members should arrive to Spartan Suites Conference Room for line up by 8:30 a.m. Full academic regalia (robe, hood and cap) is required for those participating in the academic processional.

    Appropriate business attire should be worn under the robes. Athletic gear and/or casual wear are prohibited. Please allow extra time as all individuals participating in commencement will use the same entry and security check points.

  • Commencement Photos & Videos

    Share your achievements with family and friends. Here are links to view or order graduation day photos or videos.

  • Photographs

    You may take photos from the bleacher/balcony sections only. Please do not block the aisles or passageways by attempting to greet or take photos with graduates. Please remain in your seats for the duration of the ceremony.

    No one other than those who have been issued a “Press Pass” will be allowed to take pictures on the floor.

  • Professional Photography

    Professional photographs will be taken of each graduate as they walk the stage to shake the officiant's hand and receive their diploma cover. Proofs and purchase information will be mailed or emailed directly to each graduate at the address that is provided on the back of the name card. Name cards will be distributed at 7:00 a.m. on Commencement Day. Please visit Gradimages.com to get more information regarding graduation photos.
